@RuffyanMe Wellll, following the arc from architecture is design and Herbert Simon's Sciences of the Artificial, we might find ourselves arriving at the likes of @cyetain and @DanaBredemeyer (and moi), along with books like @eoinwoodz and @NickRozanski's amazon.com/Software-Syste…
@RuffyanMe @cyetain @DanaBredemeyer @eoinwoodz @NickRozanski and many others, including those on @Grady_Booch's Handbook of Software Architecture site at handbookofsoftwarearchitecture.com/?page_id=30
@RuffyanMe But since architectural design is a matter of weighing and resolving the various forces on the system, anything to do with structural integrity (scalability, availability, reliability, safety,....) and system integrity (coherence, fit to purpose and to context) and sustainability
@RuffyanMe in all its facets including adaptability and evolvability (of the code, but also the organizational side that enables it to be responsive), and viability through value delivery as well as organizational health (tech factors in here too, etc.) as well as broader societal and
@RuffyanMe environmental impact (so ethics, ...)... factors. And that's not all!
@RuffyanMe Well, it's not just systems, but complex systems I mentioned heuristics, but there's also visual modeling, which brings us back to @Grady_Booch and UML, but also @pbpk --
@RuffyanMe @Grady_Booch @pbpk And our Visual Architecting work, and this overview from my keynote at SATURN when I was given the Software Architecture contribution award last year
@RuffyanMe @Grady_Booch @pbpk I already mentioned @simonbrown's books, but there is also this post that I wrote on modeling
@RuffyanMe Still, we're not just interested in visual design (reasoning about, exercising and expressing our design intention) but design visualization (reflection or making visible the design as built) to improve the design, which brings us to slideshare.net/RufM/design-vi…
@RuffyanMe But also observability and the work of the likes of
@RuffyanMe and @mipsytipsy... look out for her blog and talks, but here have we her "live-blogging" a talk which ties back to enough architectural themes it's well worth the side-trip
@RuffyanMe @mipsytipsy Already overwhelming? But we're nowhere close to done! Of course there's
@RuffyanMe And, while I would hope not to go so far as to evince the very quality I rail against ;), work along these lines
@RuffyanMe Architecting is designing—in that complex space where we’re designing for an expanded set—users of the software, but also ourselves (devops)
@RuffyanMe So loop in this conversation, and all things “affordances” (interfaces? and more)
