Zionism is movement created by Jews, for Jews. Their authentic conception of Zionism is as a movement for legitimate national self-determination for Jews, realised in a homeland in Israel. It is simple. Any non-Jew who believes in this idea is also a Zionist.
Decades ago, the anti-imperialist Left re-invested Israel, which they had previously viewed as socialist, with their stock narrative for 'Western' countries: as a racist, capitalist state occupied by white colonialists, who stole the land from the downtrodden poor.
That 'racist imperialism' was seen by them to have manifested in the case of Jews in ‘Zionism’, which for the Corbynite Left, therefore became racism. Zionism is racism, therefore Zionists are racists. If Jews anywhere identify with Israel then, they are bad, racist people.
So, the Jews are ‘othered’ anew: but it’s not called antisemitism, it’s ‘anti-Zionism’. If Jews repudiate Israel, however, they are ‘good Jews’ to be exempt persecution. This is a gross perversion of authentic Zionism, but it’s exactly how Corbyn & co see it.
The Corbynite left has therefore created a structure, where they are ‘good’ ‘progressive’ people who hate racism, and the racists they hate are, in reality, Jews. They became, essentially, an antisemitic movement.
In such a noxious space, older antisemitic myths took hold: Rothschild conspiracy theory, Jews controlling the media, the worlds’ banks, governments, blood libel, holocaust denial Jews as architects of the slave trade, and more.

What of the Jews 4-millenia history? Their eternal longing for return, writ large in every page of daily prayer, their festivals? Their terrible persecution, their right to self-determination, the Holocaust, the undeniable successes of Israel as a democratic, modern nation?
For the Left, these are outside their narrative and must be daily denied and diminished. Hence, for example, Corbyn & McDonnell staged events comparing Israel to the Nazis on Holocaust Memorial Day. The next year they tried to have it renamed: ‘Genocide Memorial Day’
(Note that ‘the Palestinians’ don’t appear in this exposition of modern antisemitism:that's because it uses the poor Palestinians only as a justification. 4,000 Palestinians have died in Assad’s Syria and the Corbynite Left staged not a single demonstration. This is antisemitism)
The belief that 'Israel as a racist endeavour' is not political, nor 'Foreign Policy' but lies at the root of a modern, reinvented antisemitism. Removing it from the list of the IHRA definition's examples will, therefore, be unacceptable to British Jewry.
