1. A small thread in something a few people have asked about regarding catholic media coverage of recent and ongoing scandals in the Church concerning abuse, of children, of adults, and of authority.
2. A few people have asked me if I am not concerned about damage to the Church, and to her moral authority. I am not. The Church itself, and her authority, rests on God and his plan of salvation. The gates of hell will not prevail against it.
3. I do worry about the faith of Catholics, and of those inspired by the teachings of the Church. The damage done to the good of souls by recent scandals is real. But I am convinced that the authority of the Church, and the faith of Catholics, is founded on the truth.
4. I believe that whatever small part I, or anyone else can play in serving the truth with love will, in the end, also serve the faith of Catholics and the good of the Church.
5. In the meantime, I am sustained and inspired by the faith, love, and service I meet daily in Catholics - laity, priests, and bishops. Both the Church and the faith are strong. St. John Paul II told us to be not afraid. I am not afraid.
