1/7 When you don't make much money, advice like "spend less" isn't helpful. For many, cutting cable and DIY-ing are standard practice just to get by each month.

Unpopular opinion? Many people would be better off ditching their side hustles and doubling down on their day job.
2/7 Work your tail off and be valuable to your employer. Ask for a raise or find a company that will pay you more.

For 20-30yr olds...
Bad advice: Do these surveys to make $6/hr
Good advice: How to increase your income by being a great employee
3/7 Combined, my wife and I have increased our yearly income by $20k over the past 12 months.

We're only now starting to think about side hustles because we've maxed out our current salary potential. A year or two from now, we'll make another push for substantial raises.
4/7 FWIW, neither of us work in high income fields. Elementary school receptionist (now admissions assistant) and I'm the youth pastor at a church plant. We both make 40-75% more than the national average for our work.

How?
5/7 We're both committed to being the best in our field at what we do and we found employers who don't take the roles we're in for granted.

If you're in a low-median income career, be the best in your field and find an employer who values the work you do.
6/7
I'd love to have my own business and the opportunity to grow and invest in something that is my own. I'd love the flexibility that comes with that. Someday, maybe that'll be the case. For now though, a steady income & more of it is what we need.
7/7 Lastly, I recognize not everyone works for employers who reward hard work. Some will take advantage of you, take you for granted, take credit for what you do, and pile more on your plate. Push through, take care of yourself, and look for other opportunities.
