JUST IN: After a nearly five-year investigation, the House Ethics Committee has told @RepMullin to repay $40,000 to a company he wasn't supposed to have ownership in.
The report largely clears Mullin of everything but an accounting error. He had been accused of unethically endorsing his former company and receiving outside income beyond what is allowed. ethics.house.gov/sites/ethics.h…

As you’ll recall, Oklahoma AG Mike Hunter fought an open records lawsuit for six months between November and April as part of an unprecedented effort by he and his predecessor, Scott Pruitt, to prohibit release of the state’s investigation into Tar Creek. newsok.com/concealment-of…
Then, on April 9, Hunter inexplicably ended the legal battle and released the Tar Creek audit, much to the surprise of plaintiffs, auditors and, well, just about everyone.

Why release the audit on April 9 after fighting it for so long? I think I may have found the answer. (3/7)

Pruitt: "With respect to first-class travel, I've made changes on that..."

"I recently made changes to that because I felt like from an optics and perception standpoint, it was creating a distraction and I thought best to go in another direction."
Rep. Tom Cole is up now with some big praise for Pruitt. "I have high, high, high confidence" in Pruitt. He then asks about cuts to tribal and state grant programs. Pruitt says he will revisit proposed cuts. Pruitt: "It's something that's very, very important to our efforts."

The president is once again trying to get under his Attorney General's skin, but this time by wholly misrepresenting how Congressional investigations work. Luckily, we can provide some clarity. First, his comments: Tweet from the President claiming congressional investigations were started at the behest of President Obama and that the current Attorney General wants to help the Democrats take the House this fall because two GOP House members were indicted this summer.
Second: House Ethics investigations happen or don't or go slow or go fast based on what that Congress's Ethics committee wants to have happen. The party that controls the house controls the Committee. The GOP has controlled the Ethics committee since at least the 112th Congress.
Third: Presidents have no formal role in determining what Ethics Committees do or do not do. If they're of the same party, the chair might take informal direction from the President, but there's no reason why they would if the President is of a different party.
