Medicine in Japan is overwhelmingly staffed by Japanese partly because of this. They don't have to import foreigners to cover female docs working part time. Singapore had explicit quotas in favor of men for same reason, they didn't want to subsidize edu of
a demographic they knew would likely work part time in greater numbers. NHS by contrast keeps recruiting foreigners to cover shortages
