Regular cars themselves were originally hyped with things like "will free man from drudgery of walking/cycling/slow travel/presence of strangers". That worked for a time when 20% of pop had them but when almost every1 gets a car, it won't work in cities because a city by def is

finite space with density & u cannot widen roads infinitely to accommodate rush hr traffic. Some countries lyk UK destroyed 1000's of miles of rail track as they bought into car hype. Japan wisely didn't & instead expanded rail while discouraging pvt transit to reduce oil imports
