[Short religion/politics thread...I know the 2 things we should never discuss in polite company.🤷‍♂️😅]

For a while I’ve been pondering/juxtaposing a couple Book of Mormon scriptures. Let’s call it the role of tribalism in creating the worst of times and the best of times.
In the worst of times the people bought completely into identity politics, split into factions and tribes and destroyed the government. This lead to a chaotic and miserable existence.
Conversely, in the best of times the people became unified—despite their differences—and there were no “-ites” among them. Seriously, by getting rid of their tribes they became the happiest people ever “created by the hand of god.” That’s some serious happiness.
I’ve shared this before, but 4 years ago (well before Trump), I wrote that for far too many—on the left and the right—politics had become a religion. epubs.utah.edu/index.php/HJP/…
Not surprisingly, as pointed out in this recent article/book it looks like politics as religion—and the associated tribalism—has only increased over the past two years. sltrib.com/news/politics/…
This worries me. And I hope it worries you. I’ll stop preaching. But read these verses again. They give me hope and I hope they give you hope.😊 Maybe we could start by finding someone in a different tribe this week and get to know them and love them. #BeOne ❤️✊🏼[end]
