1. Thanks to @voxdotcom, I've suddenly found myself with a ton of new followers. Hello followers! I have a tendency to produce annoyingly long threads on historical topics, often related to conservatism. So here's a thread of some of those threads (in case you're interested).
2. On QAnon and the history of conspiracy theories in the US.
3. My back-of-the-envelope math trying to discern how many @gop voters have pulled the lever since 2018 for an actual Nazi or someone who could be considered Nazi-adjacent. Spoiler alert, the number has six digits.
4. On Andrew Sullivan's flawed (IMHO) effort to distinguish Trumpism and "true conservatism." The good parts of Sullivan's "conservative tradition" that he wants to applaud, I argue, are just good old fashioned liberalism.
5. On the mixed legacy of American exceptionalism, and the dangerous direction that tradition has taken under Trump.
6. On the history of conservative Christian colleges and the folklore of American capitalism.
7. On the ideological and genealogical ties that link folks like Bannon and the alt-right to the John Birchers of the 1950s.
8. On conservatives' propensity for slippery slope arguments, and why such arguments are inherently anti-democratic.
9. On the conservative long game (i.e. it's the judiciary stupid).
10. A theory as to why Trumpian conservatives feel so aggrieved and oppressed by social groups who have far less institutional power than they do.
11. On the deeply non-conservative radicalism of the Trump Administration's approach to governance.
12. On the odd contrast between the @gop's rigid absolutism on gun rights and their cavalier disregard for voting rights.
13. On Trumpist talk of "the deep state" and why it runs counter to the way the founding generation thought about the relationship between plodding political institutions and liberty.
14. A theory as to why the MAGA crowd seems to love Poland so much. (It's the islamophobic, ethnic nationalism, stupid.)
15. On Trump as the inheritor and executor of the ambitious, conservative long game to dismantle the New Deal Order.
16. On Steve King's frighteningly racist conception of national identity...a conception of national identity that lies at the core of the right wing nationalist movements across Europe with which Trump has allied himself.
17. While many of my historical threads pertain to the history of conservatism, I've also created a few that explore the long history of progressivism in the US. Despite what contemporary conservatives might say, history is not simply on "their side."
18. On the political tradition we might call "progressive patriotism." Contemporary conservatives do not have an exclusive claim on the flag and what it means.
19. A thread on conservative uses and misuses of Hayek's Road to Serfdom in post WWII America.
20. Here's the thread on conservatism that first drew the attention of @voxdotcom and @ezraklein.
