1. A discussion this morning got me to thinking about the media and why they have been doing this Pickett's Charge for the last two years.
2. To do this I tried to put myself in their shoes and understand why they think the Pickett's charge will work.
3. Aside from the fact they are one of the last lines of defense for the Democrat party and are trying desperately to hold the line as well as protect the Dems flank, I thought of 2 other possible reasons for their actions. There are probably more but I'm going to talk about one.
4. To understand this you must go back in time to a couple periods of recent history and see the success the media has had which gives them a false sense that they can be successful with their Pickett's Charge.
5. With the beginning of centralized news and the big 3 TV stations the media became a true force in politics. Somewhere along the line the media started to lean liberal. Not sure when, it seemed a more gradual thing then a particular point in time.
6. The first real Victory the media had was Joe McCarthy in the 50's. This victory helped change Hollywood into the cesspool we all know today. It also allowed more freedom for the left in American daily life.
7. The 60's furthered the media's sense of self as well as left leaning composition. It seemed every thing they championed they won; great society welfare, family breakups, anti war. Almost a complete cultural revolution.
8. These victories continued into the 70's cumulating in driving a POTUS from office. This was their greatest victory. The media actually overrode the will of the American people and changed an election after the fact. Nixon won 520-17 but within 2 years was driven from office.
9. At that moment the USA media was the greatest force on Earth as far as they were concerned. A belief many in the media still hold. They had no equal. They were the kingmakers. The power behind the thrones. This great victory also sowed the seeds for their defeat.
10. As kingmakers they picked Carter to be their standard bearer. A little known liberal govenor from a southern state. At that time the policies the left wing media championed were starting to really kick in. The economy stagnated like all socialist economies do.
11. Under Carter socialism ground to a halt. The media was seen as part of the problem. People for the first time in 20 years started to really question the media. The media was too drunk with power to pay attention. Reagan came on the stage and was able to talk over the media.
12. The left wing media fought Reagan with everything they had that the norms of the day would allow. There were more rules back then on how far people in public could go but the media tested all of those lines. 1980 showed the media they were not all powerful.
13. The 80's continued to show the media they were not that powerful as Reagan's free market policies unleashed the American economy. Instead of learning lessons the media went further left. Talk radio come on the stage with Rush's show in 1988 to give a voice to an opposing POV.
14. If the 70's was the golden age of left wing media victories the 80's was a major defeat for them. The early 90's under Bush gave the media a chance to reform and counter attack. They were able to to get Clinton elected by hiding who he was and not reporting facts.
15. The media after the 80's promised themselves there would never be another Reagan. They went all in on Clinton but again their victory in 92 led to their defest in 94 by overreach. By not telling the people who Clinton really was his policies turned off the country by 1994
16. In 1994 the gop won the house a stunning unforseen victory and cemented that the people did not want a return to Carter but to Reagan. Clinton wisely changed course, the media did not. By the mid 90s with the media unable/unwilling to go right more voices rose in competition
17. Voices in talk radio, foxnews & on the new medium the world wide web. The left wing media saw more defeats as Clinton moved to the Center &the media was unable to push Gore over the finish line in 2000. The razor thin margin gave the left wing media hope that not all was lost
18. 9/11 was yet another defeat for the left wing media in many ways. 9/11 should have ended the power of the media for all time but Bush allowed them to reform just like his father did in the early 90s after communism fell.
19. The long drawn out Iraq war and other stupid left leaning bush policies like new child left behind and Medicare part D gave the media an opening. Leading to them being able to push the Dems to victory in 2006. They returned to hiding who the dem candidate really was in 2008.
20. The media created journ-o-list to hide the facts on Obama. They promoted McCain over people like Rudy, Mitt and Huckabee in the primary. They went scorch earth on Palin. They went all in, in a successful counter attack reversing or so they thought the Reagan revolution.
21. Like in 1992 with Clinton there is a price the media pays for covering up who a candidate really is. By 2010 the people knew they had been duped and delivered one of the biggest election defeats to the media and dems in modern history. The media decided to ignore it.
22. 2012 saw them back to their old tricks. Attacking the tea party, promoting the GOP candidate in the primary most likely to lose in the general. They achieved a draw in 2012 unable to win the house but able to hold on to Senate and WH
23. By 2014 with Obama (unlike Clinton) &the media unable and unwilling to change course they lost the Senate and set up their biggest defeat ever. The election of Trump in 2016. Notice in all this time, media never changed to match the population. Their answer is always go left.
24. The media has been the tip of the spear for leftism over the last 60 years. After every defeat they move left and fight harder. They have been able to reform, regroup and deliver victories in the face of defeat. To them the Pickett's charge is SOP.
25. However, the media has failed to understand that due to social media &the internet they are now facing machinegun nests & flame throwers. They haven't adapted. Censorship is a flimsy defense against machine guns. Yet they continue the charge. What else can they do, surrender?
