A "HOW-TO" THREAD: How to deal with a show, book, comic, etc. taking characters/story/viewpoints in a direction you disagree with!

Now, it happens. A show you love, a comic book you've been reading for years suddenly... *changes*. And you? You don't like this change. What do? >>
For a lot of folks, 'what do' is to immediately go on a rant online. For most of them, that's where it starts and ends. And that's fine! I've done it. You vent, and once you've vented, you're done with it.

For others? Well, they choose to harass and attack. No bueno. >>
Look, I get it. You're pissed because it feels like they're taking away something you love, and that doesn't seem fair.

Here's the thing, tho: that thing you love? It's not yours. Never was, never will be. What *is* yours, is your love for that thing. >>
If you just can't let it go? Then use your *love* of the thing. Organize respectful campaigns to show the creators your love. Tell others about the thing so that maybe they'll love it too. Thank the creators for their work so far, and maybe they'll get the message. >>
Or maybe they won't! It might be out of their hands. Or they're confident in what they're doing and are sticking to their guns. Or they just decided to change the thing, and, it being *theirs*, well, they can. And that's that. >>
So what do *I* do? What would I suggest? Simple, really: walk away.

If the thing has changed in a way that you don't like, then why invest your energy into it anymore? Just... let it go. Stop watching it. Stop reading it. Stop buying it. Move on. >>
There are *so* many other books, movies, comics, shows, games, artists, musicians, actors, singers, sports players, and underwater basketweavers. Many are just as good as the thing. Some are even better! You might always miss the thing, but it'll fade in time to nostalgia. >>
So, that's it. It's your energy, your love. Don't turn your energy against your love and turn it into hate, instead, turn that energy into finding a new thing, and learning to love it. I promise you'll be so much happier without that hate.
P.S.- Halfway through writing this I realized a lot of it can be applied to all kinds of relationships. So, like, apply accordingly, and you're welcome.

Man, I'm good.
