He notes that it’s quite incredible when you think about despite how Muslims were at the time in terms of intelligence and culture, i.e. civilization, they were overtaken by a people who were largely ignoramuses still living in the Dark Ages.
In his readings of texts written by Muslim scholars living at the time he came across a sentence in a commentary of Sahih Muslim by Abu al-‘Abbas al-Qurtubī who had relocated to and died in Egypt, where he described the general state of Muslims right before the fall.
It was one in which the whole community lost its morality, where young people engaged in sinful actions in both sexual promiscuity and impermissible financial transactions, and imams/scholars gave them legal justifications to do so.
In response, God descended His punishment upon them in the form of the ignoramuses who attacked and expelled them.
In the various analyses of our current circumstances we often get lost in the material causes and how they can explain how we got to this state. However, we must always remember that our external state is a mirror that God uses for us to see our internal state.
لَهُ مُعَقِّبَاتٌ مِّن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ يَحْفَظُونَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ سُوءًا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِ مِن وَالٍ
Surely Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change their own condition; and when Allah intends evil to a people, there is no averting it, and besides Him they have no protector. [Quran 13:11]
On another note, Shaykh al-Kamali is a sign from the signs of God. May Allah preserve him.
