Interesting film on the life of Marie Colvin. The unfortunate thing is the a) "war correspondent as addict" meme and b) you have to get killed to be meaningful to Hollywood. Both deeply negative stereotypes for the next generation of conflict coverers. deadline.com/2018/08/a-priv…
I met Marie as I was coming out of the war in Chechnya in late 1999 and she was going in. She didn't get in far enough to cover the war, but she did win an award for her story on trying to get the hell out of Chechnya. foreignpolicy.com/2012/03/03/kil…

I did warn Paul Conroy never to have anyone younger and better looking play him in a movie. People will always be disappointed when they meet you in real life. The talented shooter honors Colvin's legacy and I hope you will watch the doco and film.

Competence is knowing what to do in a situation and how to do it. It is not the same as excellence.
Excellence is dependent on other people, like judges, examiners, teachers, assessors, inspectors, auditors. But we can't control these people and whether they think we're excellent or not.

Marie Colvin was many journalists' hero. She risked her life countless times, over decades, to expose war crimes and abuses of power by forces of every political stripe, from Sri Lanka to Gaza to Iraq to Syria, where she was killed. /1
Marie was killed on Feb. 22, 2012, in a Syrian government artillery barrage on a makeshift press center in the besieged, rebel-held neighborhood of Baba Amr, in Homs. Photojournalist Remi Ochlik was killed too. /2

#b 'Teknik menjawab' is not a series of rituals that you carry out to secure an A in the exam. You don't get guaranteed an A just through superficial actions like highlighting keywords or drawing meniscus or inserting isi tersirat.
The problem is students and teachers treat teknik menjawab as some sort of pseudo magical ritualistic gestures that will bring a certain outcome. Draw a pentagram, slaughter a chicken, and your wish will be granted.
Some remote Pacific Islanders in 1940s came in contact with Allied and Japanese soldiers who were more technologically advanced and thought the soldiers were gods who had many "cargo" (canned food, electronics, modern stuff)
