The @meme_america account promoting #VerifiedHate was previously run by "Millennial Matt." It's a stage name used by Holocaust denying white supremacist Matt Colligan, a Unite the Right marcher.

"DC Bowlgang" was a known quantity on @getongab and frequently made violent threats on the site--some of them at me.

He's big Dylann Roof fan (if you can't tell from his name). Gab was filled with guys like this and despite some being banned, there are still many more like him.
The guy they grabbed was perpetually talking about murdering innocent black people and @getongab let him run wild with it.

This was DC Bowlgang's *pinned post* on Gab for over half a year.
When history looks back on what happened in Charlottesville in August of 2017, I hope attention is paid to stuff like this...

I have logged onto Gab nearly every day for over a year because of work. @getongab -- above anything else -- is an engine for anti-Semitism and bigotry. Already bloodthirsty posters are calling the killer a "hero" -- this is typical Gab stuff:

[Thread] Based on recent discussions with @SamuelSokol, @TarikCyrilAmar, and @AuschwitzMuseum over the continued debates regarding the "naming" of concentration camps in Poland, I've decided it's time for a thread, b/c this is not about history but the present in Poland.
What has many Poles (and state-run museums) up in arms, is ANY connection of the word "Poland" with Holocaust sites (and more broadly behavior- hence the "correction" above.) They particularly rail against the term "Polish" death or concentration camps. edition.cnn.com/2018/02/01/eur…
The argument is that Poles did not establish or run these camps...which is absolutely correct. But the problem is, no one really thinks Poles built Auschwitz, etc. Sure, there are ignorant people out there or some students, but I defy you to find a scholar making this argument.

So.. as some of you know, I've spent the summer basically camped out on @TalibKweli's Twitter feed; studying, monitoring, and mixing it up with some pretty ugly trolling.

It all started with a Spotify playlist...

Originally, it was supposed to be a four week research project which I would write up for the Capstone Project for my Bachelor's in Cybersecurity. My plan was to learn their tactics and use that data to develop effective countermeasures that could help people fight back.
Because what I soon found was that these guys don't just target celebrities... they also go after regular people who don't fit their vision of the world. They target their friends and families. Make fake accounts. Do anything they can to silence them.

Over the last several days, a new hashtag has appeared and propagated on Twitter: #VerifiedHate. The concept seems to be to attack verified (blue-check) accounts that are theoretically promoting hate against white people.
We downloaded recent tweets containing the #VerifiedHate hashtag. We found 18092 tweets from 9747 accounts - the first tweet is in the wee hours of the morning on August 5th, and the hashtag takes off on the evening of August 7th.
This hashtag campaign appears to have been planned on other platforms in two stages. First, we have this post on Gab from 8/5, which is within minutes of the first tweet from @Keque_Magus. It's followed by plenty of additional Gab discussion promoting #VerifiedHate.
