Another reminder: Trade experts say today’s Trump-imposed deadline is not an actual deadline, and that Canada basically has until the end of September even if the U.S. wants to start the clock with a congressional notification of a US-Mexico deal today.
It’d be a weird situation - Trump’s team starts the clock today, then Canada signs on in three weeks or something - but Congress almost certainly wouldn’t object to Canada’s late inclusion because it wants Canada included.
The purpose of starting the 90-day clock today is allowing Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to sign the deal before he leaves office. Left-wing and more unpredictable Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador takes office in December.
