Like playing chess with the gods. Everything is exactly set. Scotland ready to split, Labour led by a crank who would nationalise everything and break up the country, and the Tories with no majority and dependant on the DUP.
Theresa May is checkmated.
You wasted two years on junk news, but you were always being forced to this point.

The Conservative Party sacks Theresa May and abandons Brexit, or they will destroy the whole country.

That's the choice.
Okay, I underestimated people's stupidity. Because I could already see how this was going to end two years ago, I thought everyone else would as well.

We're not expecting a withdrawal agreement on October 18th, but another Euco is pencilled in for November 15th - just in case.
But the stupidity of English politics . . . We'd better go through this properly so we all understand what's what.
The "deal" we're talking about - but anyone using that word has no right to call themself a journalist - is a withdrawal agreement. Just that, and nothing more.
When they say a "deal" can be done, what they mean is complete a withdrawal agreement.
And that's the easy part, remember. Withdrawal agreement. Could have done that at any time in the last two years.
That's what Article 50 is for: Complete a withdrawal agreement

Theresa May is the global village idiot, and English political journalism would embarrass a three year old.
There is a problem with BBC news. The BBC has always been a bit inflated with this image of itself as the journal of national record.
And what they've done in Brexit is they've adopted government posture. To the extent they've almost become a propaganda outfit.
The BBC has chosen, quite politically, to disregard the European Union as a valid source of information.
And that has left the country entirely ignorant because it turns out the European Union has been providing valid information.

No. The quality that's missing from Corbyn, that Blair had infinite amounts of, is discipline.

Tony Blair got to the top of the Labour Party with the kind of discipline that Corbyn has never learnt.
Corbyn became Labour leader by accident. He never expected to get the job, and he never wanted it. It just came his way by crazy fortune, and he has staggered around ever since in a clueless muddle.
And it's that complete absence of discipline that most resembles Trump. They both came in the same way, as a clownish escapade, and neither of them has shown any sign of even the basic maturity for the job.

Inspired by this great thread by @CatherineDVries , I'll offer my own thread with some predictions about EU politics for 2019 - recognizing many of the same tensions as Prof. De Vries, but perhaps a bit more optimistic. 1/20
Populists (particularly on far right) will make gains in 2019 European Parliament elections, but they will remain in minority (and remain divided), so mainstream parties will still be able to run EU institutions. In short, the center will hold. 2/20
The elections are likely to be followed by shakeup in Europarties. In part, this will be a byproduct of Brexit: in particular exit of UKIP will likely break up @EFDgroup & exit of Tories will threaten @ecrgroup. In any case, there will be a big shakeup of groups on the right 3/20

If we leave with no deal, or a bad deal (and there can be no deal better than the one we have now), people will suffer, lose jobs, people struggling to get by now will go under. Any GE will see the tories ousted and Corbyn in charge - but that’s the worst thing that can happen 1/
Whoever is in charge post-Brexit is taking a hugely poisoned chalice, a lose/lose situation. Companies leaving, a currency falling, a population suffering.
That population will oust them at the first opportunity and keep them out of power for a generation. 2/
So Labour now have w couple of choices. Openly advocate a people’s vote whilst simultaneously campaigning for a GE.
If we get a GE we can then stop Brexit and get a labour led nation within the EU, or fail to get a GE but ensure that the tories own Brexit 3/

On Brexit, Theresa May wrapped herself in the flag, with "best of British"/ "best days ahead of us" lines.

But nothing in this speech will have surprised EU or caused offence. References to Gdansk, Berlin Wall,clear attempt to distance from Hunt's USSR lines.
May describes Chequers proposal as “challenging” for the EU. One way to describe a plan, where the central economic ideas have been rejected by the EU. ( tho not the foreign policy and security bits, which is often forgotten).
Fisheries stuff goes down well with Tory party. But leaving the EU CFP does not mean a free-for-all, only the start of complex negotiations.

It is Brexit in miniature: easy on paper, but long, endlessly complex and not what most expected.

Upon reading London now has worse murder rate this year than New York and other soaring gang related crime statistics, felt compelled to write a thread about @SadiqKhan his role as Mayor and what his #priorities should be instead of what they appear to be. 1/15
He has taken action in ensuring (a) Mean tweets on social media are being policed and has also ensured some of his targets have been ex-Muslims for so-called “hate speech.” See @ShaziaHobbs for example. 2/15
(b) He avoids answering questions on the annual Al-Quds march in London which is pro-Hezbollah, “Hezbollah” means “Party of Allah” regularly features banners & chants of “death to the Jews” #Corbyn has been a speaker. 3/15
