The Kelly gubernatorial campaign seems the latest iteration of the formula whose previous iterations were the Shaheen and Hassan campaigns. Lots of institutional support, take the pledge, broad themes.

It works!

More accurately: it has worked.
Marchand feels like Cilley in 2012 (disclosure: I worked social media for that). Wonky, specifics, no pledge, willing to take risks, little institutional support (and so fewer resources for field,) etc.

Today's (10-31) Data Thread: NC's 2018 'early votes' are setting new #s in terms of absentee by mail & one-stop/in-person for a mid-term:

Over 1.4M requests have been made & returned & accepted (accepted mail not yet past 2014 total #s, but in-person has)

2018's absentee by mail ballots have slowed somewhat, & thus the #s have not yet reached 2014's #s.

But in absentee onestop/in-person ballots, NC has exceed 2014's #s for both requested & accepted.

Reminder: 2014 had 10 days of early voting & 2018 has 18 days.

Okay then, I am in a hotel with two weeks worth of groceries for a family of four (really don't ask about my day) but there is wine and I've been putting this off so welcome to this evening's cultural activity! It is a reading of Amy Chua's book Political Tribes! There's wine!
I need a few minutes to breathe and start everything charging and figure out this food situation because ironically I have stuffed this mini fridge to capacity and also have nothing I could actually eat for dinner. There has to be pizza delivery to the motel near nothing right?
For those of you new to my feed, I often do things so you don't have to, and reading books that you should know exist but shouldn't spend time or money on is one of them.

Eventually I will prejudge a book wrongly and feel very chastened but I keep spinning that wheel!

Let me tell you a story about the great lengths Republicans will go to in order to block access to the ballot box. All of this is unfolding right now in New Hampshire. #NHpolitics
Where it started: NH Republicans passed SB 3 last year, an overly bureaucratic and unnecessary law aimed solely at making it harder for eligible voters to cast a ballot.
SB 3 requires new documentation for people who register within 30 days of an election -- documentation that can often be difficult for students, low-income folks and new residents to get their hands on.
