So why the change of hosts (again) on @CANADALANDCMNS? I will lay it out:
COMMONS hosts have (almost) always been outside contractors with incredibly busy lives/careers. We've had an activist/columnist, a lawyer/academic, a comedian/storyteller/entrepreneur, politics people, media people...
They have hosted COMMONS while writing books & columns, while teaching courses, while giving speeches across the country...
It's kept things interesting! So many different voices, perspectives & subjects. The show's mandate to platform underrepresented people & issues has been well-served.
But the production model has been a big challenge for COMMONS' in-house producers (and we've gone through a bunch of them). Burn-out rate has been high.
This has never been the hosts' fault. We chose amazing people with demanding schedules. We thought we could make it work, and for a while it did. But it ain't sustainable.
What COMMONS producers told me consistently: the show needs a new production model. Producers & hosts work best together when they are together, working side-by-side on each episode.
The outcome: COMMONS will have one host, and that host will be a full-time member of the CANADALAND team. And I will tell you who that is....tomorrow.
