Here is a list of things I wish Tom Bartlett (@tebartl) had done better in covering SIPS for this @chronicle article chronicle.com/article/I-Want…
1. Talked to more than one woman in SIPS. They are about half of the organization's members
2. Reflected the large number of people who talked about community-building and expressed optimism at the opening session, not just the people expressing frustration (yes, cover that too b/c it's real, but in proportion)
3. Covered the constructive, forward-looking grassroots work that members did at the conference. Here is a list of hackathon topics:

Making open science more diverse and inclusive
How to create and get open science job
Teaching replicable science
...
Creating a preregistration template for secondary data analysis
Facilitating scientific self-correction in psychology
Creating a replicability-related methods reform FAQ
Sharing replicable research in science communication
...
Inspiring journal editors and boards to promote transparency
Improving diversity and inclusion in hack-a-thon products

I will 100% defend error-correction as a constructive part of science and it is welcome at SIPS, but it's not the only thing osf.io/xa4gb/
4. Found a better description than "data thugs." That phrase is so played out medium.com/@jamesheathers…
5. Represented a range of views among SIPS members, which includes a lot of hope for the future. Basing "combustible language at SIPS" on one person is lazy journalism. Include this view, yes, but don't make it a stand-in for the whole org because you didn't talk to enough people
6. Not allowed anonymous sources to state facts that were not checked or challenged. How many people are actually, seriously considering leaving the field because of SIPS or the broader reform movement? Is this an actual trend?
7. Gotten this fact correct. Is it small and petty of me to point it out? Probably. But when I teach and give talks I refer to 2011 as a watershed year b/c of Bem and False-Positive Psychology. This misstep jumped out at me
To close, to anyone still reading: If you want to know what SIPS is actually like, talk to people in it. There's room for - and already likeminded people with - all kinds of perspectives. SIPS Prez @katiecorker (who wasn't interviewed) gets the last word: cos.io/blog/open-scie…
