The head of FEMA is defending Trump’s lies about the Hurricane Maria death toll. Deaths he personally shares some responsibility for. This is shocking enough, but it gets worse. /1

So what we have is an incompetent, lazy, corrupt FEMA director trying to hang on to his job by currying favor with Trump. And since Trump is Trump, this means propping up a huge lie about the number of Americans killed by a natural disaster and botched response. /4
It’s the Trump administration in a nutshell. Incompetent, greedy people getting away with it by going along with Trump’s attacks on democracy and reality. /5
Which pretty much sums up every Republican in Congress and every enabler in the media too. /6
Long hit rock bottom, but the man just keeps shoveling. Worth pointing out the enabling works both ways here. He’s helping Trump, but Trump’s lie also covers up Long’s failure. Co-dependent malevolence and incompetence. /7

You can't throw a rock at the Maria Butina case without hitting David Keene, former president and current board member of the NRA. He's been right at the center of the NRA-Russia connection since the beginning. /1
The relationship goes back to 2011, when Keene met Torshin at an NRA convention and sent this thoughtful follow-up note.

Republicans are shouting from the rooftops they believe in minority rule and want more of it.
What Douthat and Vos are advocating for is the same thing Trump ran on: anti-democratic rule by a rich, white, male Christian minority.

It’s been the subtext of Republican messaging since Nixon. Now it’s just plain text.
The subtext version was powerful because it resonated with the dominant societal view of who are the Real Americans, but with enough deniability to let its subscribers tell themselves they believed in liberty and justice for all. Discussed further here-

At all other times they ignore the territory & it's extreme poverty, economic dependency, & rampant political corruption.

(2) Watching hurricanes #Katrina & #Harvey from afar was an experience that radicalized me to become a Hurricane Watcher, focusing on storms affecting the US. Harvey had the potential to be another Katrina. Thanks to sterling work at all levels, Katrina-level tragedy was averted.
(3) The fact is, #Harvey, #Irma, & #Maria were handled well by local, state/territory, & federal government. Far Left Democrats FEEL that Maria wasn't, but Far Left Democrats feel a lot of things, especially since the #TDS pandemic outbreak on 11/8/16.
