Women (and all survivors of sexual assault) live in a perpetual state of being damned either way. If we report everything we say will be framed to make it our fault. 1/
2/ with reporting comes wave after wave of attacks on our very existence. The assault falls out of focus as the victim and the destruction of her life does.
3/ the victim will be a whore or a tease. They “should have known” That time they cheated on a math test in 5th grade will come up. Survivors have to leave jobs or schools. Or worse they have to deal with their abuser’s presence when nothing happens.
4/ the legal system has some shining examples of ferocious advocacy for assault survivors. Sadly, the opposite is true quite often. Worse, underfunded and neglected so cases fall through the cracks.
5/ so we grow up in this culture. We see what happens and a lot of victims dont report because they don’t want their lives torn apart to protect that superstar swimmer, or the top salesperson in the company.
6/ this woman (like Anita Hill before her) is being yanked into the spotlight and her life shredded because the powerful will destroy her to take that seat.
