Can we talk for a minute about my senator -- @JohnCornyn -- and his response to Dr. Ford? "There are some gaps there that need to be filled," he said today, referring to Dr. Ford's account from the early 1980s and her testifying publicly next week.
“The problem is, Dr. Ford can’t remember when it was, where it was, or how it came to be," @JohnCornyn says. IS THAT THE PROBLEM?
Not that he will or that he cares at all about sexual assault survivors, but @JohnCornyn, before he gets on his high horse, should do just a little bit of reading about trauma and brains and memory and violence.
Of course, the details around the violence itself, those are mapped right onto the brain and she can recall them still today. It's the stuff around it that becomes hazy, that people want to forget, actively try to forget, for their sanity. @JohnCornyn
And a reminder, @JohnCornyn, that it is, as the system is set up, the survivor who must tell their story over and over again and the accused who remains silent. There is only one side for which you can even pick apart their accounts.
Perhaps Kavanaugh will suddenly remember something come Monday, but he'll probably stick to he doesn't remember anything. He'll have no story with gaps to fill in because he'll be allowed not to tell a story. Tidy, that. @JohnCornyn
I know you don't care about these tweets, @JohnCornyn. And I expect you to drag Dr. Ford on Monday, guaranteeing that more survivors will stay silent so that you can continue this cycle of shaming them for their silence while actively encouraging it.
But damn, for once, I wish I had senators who cared at all about my interests, my safety, my health. Alas, I have you. @JohnCornyn
