Good evening all. A lot of you are familiar with a dog named Caesar, who is currently still at the shelter looking for a foster and/or adoptive home. We wanted to share his story in a little more detail in hopes that it may guide him to his forever home.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Caesar, he is a very happy, playful, and energetic dog, which is a far cry from who he was when he was initially brought into the shelter. This is Caesar's story: January 5th, 2018 was the last day Caesar would ever live confined to a..
January 5th, 2018 was the last day Caesar would ever live confined to a tiny mangled crate, or on a heavy log chain, and left outside in dangerously low temperatures without adequate shelter, food, or water. The temperature on this day was approximately 4 degrees.
We had received multiple complaints from neighbors and people passing by about the conditions Caesar was forced to live in. We also received concerns about the owner being physically abusive to Caesar. When our Animal Control Officer arrived at the address to do a welfare check,
it was quickly determined that Caesar needed to be removed from the home. He was terrified and very shy at first. His owner was charged with Animal Cruelty, and Caesar was impounded and brought to the shelter. We're proud to say that we won the case against Caesar's owner,
which meant that we could proceed with getting him ready to be adopted. Caesar was very unsure about where he was, but appeared relieved to be inside where it was warm. He devoured any food that was put in front of him, and after a few days, seemed to adjust to his new place.
Caesar was scheduled to be neutered on 1/25/2018. He was heartworm tested prior to surgery, and unfortunately tested positive. Another obstacle to overcome. Treatment for heartworm is expensive, so we started a fundraiser to raise the money needed to get Caesar treated.
As always, the wonderful community here showed up and donated to make sure that Caesar recieved the heartworm treatment!! After he was neutered and treated for the heartworm, Caesar could officially be adopted! We began working with Caesar and quickly realized that..
Caesar had almost zero socialization skills, and was very high energy. He hated being in a kennel, and would hurt himself attempting to get out. This is very common with dogs like Caesar who have spent their lives confined in a small crate.. sadly!
To ensure Caesar would not harm himself, we moved him to a quiet room by himself that gave him the freedom to roam. He still would constantly jump and bark and run circles around his new room. Again, common behavior given the circumstances. He needed some training as well.
Caesar LOVES to walk and play outside. Caesar is a 3 year-old Pitbull, and is up to date on his vaccines and is neutered. He does well with other dogs also, but we do recommend a meet and greet if you have a dog in your home. Caesar has never really had the chance to be a dog.🙁
So, that's what our focus has been, and our hope is that someone is willing to give him that chance. Staff here work with Caesar multiple times a day He would be an excellent candidate for fostering as well, and would be greatly beneficial to him. If you're interested in Caesar,
PLEASE come to the shelter to meet him. He will NOT disappoint. His journey shouldn't end here. Please share!!
