Hatch responds to Dem push for FBI background check probe of Kavanaugh accusation, as happened with Anita Hill’s allegations.

“Clear federal nexus” is an interesting standard Hatch seems to be making for FBI background check investigations? Because the FBI can look things that don’t have a “clear federal nexus” in background checks.
One example of the FBI looking at things which don't have a "clear federal nexus" -- years-old allegations by Rob Porter's ex-wives were reportedly included in his FBI background check.

We must keep in mind that this investigation is essentially a background check on #Kavanaugh, in light of newly surfaced allegations of belligerent drunkenness and sexual violence alleged against him by Ford and others. 2/8
So this investigation is more about Kavanaugh and his nomination than it is about Ford or any other accusers, and while the FBI does not reach conclusions, it does uncovers facts, and presents those facts to others so they can better reach their own conclusions. 3/8

Maybe at this point a short #Kavanaugh appointment thread would be helpful. So: where are we and what does it mean? What are the Americans doing? Is this just a terrible version of House of Cards?
Justices of the Supreme Court are nominated by the US President and appointed by the President “with the advice and consent” of the Senate. Art. II Sec. 2 of the Constitution.
The President vets candidates before nomination, discusses candidates with allies, there’s also an FBI background check. Once nominated, the confirmation hearings are held in the Senat Judiciary Committee.

What are Anita Hill’s critiques of what she encountered from the Senate Judiciary Committee? No clear process, a rush to a vote, and failure to call all relevant witnesses. She sees the same problems with the #Kavanaugh hearing. Hill calls for valuing the humanity of victims.
She then called out @OrrinHatch for comparing her to the exorcist. @SenMikeLee, a room of 600 of your constituents are listening to Anita Hill and looking for better from our Utah representatives. And we’re all registered to vote.
Anita Hill asks why the feminist movements in the 60s-90s weren’t enough to end sexual harassment. Her answer? No clear government leadership and an unwillingness to confront the harsh reality that many harassers are people we respect, including our friends and family.
