Funniest thing about McDonnell's interview is that 'People's Vote' would be May's deal or for Labour to negotiate a new one, which they can only do in govt. So it's basically: general election or, failing that, a general election politics.co.uk/blogs/2018/09/…
There is a moral lesson here, which is the same as the lesson on political parties supporting electoral reform: those in a position to change the system are the ones who are benefiting from it.
You're never going to get someone more committed to internal party democracy than Corbyn. And now he is leader what does he do?
150 local parties demanding People's Vote, thousands of members on streets, almost universal support among the membership.
He does what his predecessors did: work the machine. Use your organisational muscle against relatively inexperienced and slightly overawed local delegates.
Say nice things on telly about following the party's will. But behind the scenes you neutralise the motions. And then send out a frontbencher the next morning with a message that kills the grassroots campaign stone dead.
