GW7 - Thread ahead of #LFC vs. Chelsea. Lots to cover this week.
Is the opposing team vulnerable in transition? Yes, very.
Stylistically, we’re the worst possible side that a Sarri team still learning the ropes could face. A high line, lots of emphasis on defenders passing out, and an attack that favours the left.
Sarri’s line should consist of Alonso, Cahill, Luiz & Azpi, none of whom are fast & they’ll have to manage the runs in behind of Mane & Salah.
If Alonso wants to attack as normal, he’ll have decisions to make. Think Salah will take up this position behind him a lot.
Roma’s high line last season was a disaster. Liverpool lured the press at the back & then simply played over it. 7 goals in two games.
To play such a high line Chelsea must press the ball. Jorginho leads this from deep & vacates his space to do so. If their press is beaten, the space between their midfield & defence is usually massive.
Yeah, massive. Let’s also remember where Firmino usually operates.
Arsenal profited through this. Once they beat Chelsea’s press they focused on cutbacks knowing that’s where the space would be.
I doubt we’ll see evidence of all this midweek due to rotation, but on Saturday I’m expecting Chelsea to have real problems.
