The two moments he notes--Bush v. Gore & Merrick Garland--were the most devastating blows to the legitimacy of the Supreme Court. If Trump had a microgram of statesmanship or vision or desire to heal our partisan hysteria, he would have nominated Garland.
That's what a great President would have done. Obviously, we're not even in the time zone of that kind of wisdom and leadership. But if Democrats believe this justifies descending to an even more debased level, they're deluded. History won't be any kinder to them.
