Kavanaugh is lying and I'm going to write a long thread about this. I studied the body language of power and comfort for my master's thesis at #VCFA. From my research, I believe that Kavanaugh knows he attacked Ford and he's lying about it now.
First, to determine if someone's lying, you need multiple markers. Three at a time. The body language should deviate from how someone normally moves. Arms and feet tell more than the face since adults are usually good at hiding their lies with their faces.
Here are signs of lying in Kavanaugh's testimony. We can't see his feet, but I bet they were wiggling and shifting. If an FBI agent were questioning him, he'd be in a chair with no desk to shield him. So we have to look at deception portrayed through his arms and face movements.
Right away, when #Kavanaugh first walked into the hearing, his body language showed he was preparing to lie. He adjusted his nameplate twice, as well as his papers and mic. Then grabbed his water, feverishly. Why? The throat gets instantly thirsty when we are about to lie.
He had multiple arm movements that demonstrate lying: shuffling his papers as an excuse to look away from a questioner, shielding by lifting his papers, fiddling with the metal on his binder, shielding his mouth with his finger, shoulders tightening up, and arm freeze.
His face was obvious too. Let's look at #Kavanaugh's response to Graham's outburst and question: are you a gang rapist? First off, he's not accused of this. But his answer was deceptive. He said no, and stared, big eyed, not blinking. Like a kid with his hand in the cookie jar.
Note also, when he didn't think the focus was on him, when he was listening to documents being read, like the one about the women who supported him, he had an increased blink rate while documents were being read aloud, lip licking, and sniffing. Guilty much?
Let's talk about #Kavanaugh's excessive sniffing and the nose wiggling. Our noses dry up when we're lying. It's just an auto-response. We can't stop it. Probably someone told him not to touch his face, but his nose was out of control.
How about #Kavanaugh's rage and the crying? For many people, this meant he was being truthful. A very common tactic to distract from the lying is becoming enraged or tearful. It's the fight or flight reflex. It's very convincing. Commonly used by kids. Moms are not fooled.
Please, people, stop talking about how maybe both Ford and Kavanaugh are telling the truth. Ford has done a polygraph. She had no deceptive body language during her testimony. Kavanaugh's testimony was filled with it. He is the liar and he knows it. #SayNoToKavanaugh
