Something the media is not telling you. Every day longer the Kavanaugh saga goes on is one less day democrat Senators have to campaign for re-election. Also every day longer it goes on it fires up the GOP base more. At this point, the dems are really stuck in a catch 22.
The dems can't have Kavanaugh confirmed, yet to continue to fight him they increase the risks of losing the mid-terms. If they end the fight without being seen as fighting to the last person, they risk massive backlash from their base.
If the dems fail to stop Kavanaugh confirmation even if they fight with everything they risk their base being demoralized right before the midterms. The media will never explain to you the danger the dems are in over this confirmation
The GOP face some major risks too but all their risks are on the side of a failure to confirm. The dems risks are multifaceted. The GOP can string it out some, sure it will piss off some people but as long as the final outcome is Kavanaugh on the SCOTUS the GOP base will be okay.
The Dems are the ones in the more risky position here. I restate that the dems should have quickly allowed the process to go through. The dem base would have forgotten for the most part by mid-terms and would have gone back to Trump hate as the primary driver.
Instead, the dems made this confirmation literally a hill to die on. the GOP being in the majority has the power to strike a devastating blow to the entire dem party both short terms (mid-terms) and long term (loss of SCOTUS)
Regardless of the final outcome of this confirmation from a conservative/right leaning POV, the dems have shown the GOP base that it is imperative that the GOP holds the Senate or not one Judge will be seated in the next 2 years on any court.
