Today’s @Ofcom ‘Connected Nations’ report shows narrowing gap on superfast coverage, through delivery of #DSSB Programme, but also scale of challenge (particularly on mobile coverage) as UK’s approach has left 25% of Scotland’s landmass with 4G ‘notspots’ ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/…
Our response, recognising is crucial to economy, is @scotgov committed to delivering 100% superfast broadband coverage (30 mbps) by end of 2021 &,hence, we’re investing 96.5% funding for £600m Reaching 100 per cent (R100) programme & £25m in the Scottish ‘4G Infill Programme’.
Crucially, broadband & mobile telephony remain legal & regulatory responsibilities of UK Ministers. @scotgov intervention is to address ‘market failure’ arising from UK market & we’ll work with Ofcom & UK Govt to ensure Scotland gets world-class digital infrastructure we deserve.
