One of the shifts in Hindu opinion that I see over the past 10 years or so (particularly in the Modi era) is the reduced interest in "Uniform Civil Code".

When I was growing up as a kid in the 90s, a prime talking point on the RIght was - Uniform Civil Code, and also Article 377
In the Modi era, that has changed. I am talking of general RW opinion as I gauge it from social media. And I am not saying this change is caused by RW leadership.
Today the average political Hindu is not as interested with how Muslims live. He is more self-aware and keen on pursuing his interests

In fact there seems to be a reaction against the idea of UCC. The Hindus would rather have codes for themselves as opposed to a common code
I find this a positive change, atleast in terms of what it means for Political conservatism in this country.

Seeking a Uniform Civil code should ideally be the talking point for the "Progressive" (center left) party of the land.
But the Congress somehow was not for it, given its interest in minority appeasement.

But it is more in character for the "Conservative" center right party to defend diversity. And different ways of living.
Uniformity is the Left-wing ideal.

The conservative temperament is to embrace variety, diversity and cultural autonomy
So this change in political priorities in the H-base in my view is welcome.

But I am not sure how the party leadership and top brass feels about this. Have their views kept pace with the changes in Hindu thinking on the ground?
An alternative way of thinking about this is -

Maybe the HIndu base was never really interested in the UCC. Or Article 377.

What they wanted was the state to have a more favorable tilt towards Hindu interests
But it is the RSS and BJP top-brass with their tendencies towards "uniformity" and aversion towards diversity, who kept this UCC thing alive and made it seem like a much bigger issue than it ever was!?
