1/ Lots of attention yesterday to @apple’s Privacy developments. Don’t forget it’s still a data company though and makes money off data. I’d like understand from @tim_cook know why on iOS, users cannot set the default search engine of THEIR CHOICE? ..
2/ @Apple only allows one of four predetermined search engines from @google @yahoo (think @oath ) @bing @DuckDuckGo The default is automatically set by Apple to the @Google search Engine - Privacy by Design? I don’t think so. So .../
3/ on what basis does Apple allow @google @Yahoo @bing @DuckDuckGo to be the chosen four? Purely altruism? Some quid pro quo?

I will be ready to ask @tim_cook about this at the @icdppc2018 given that Mr Cook is due to give a keynote.

1/ I took quick look at the Facebook Portal portal.facebook.com

As usual, the devil is in the ambiguities of what Facebook says & of course what it doesn’t say. After all, this is a company that has mastered #DeceptiveByDesign approach, to privacy (think #WhatsApp)
2/ #FacebookPortal Facebook says the Portal is 'Private by Design’ and was "created with privacy .. in mind.” Well, that depends on what you mean by 'private’ and ‘privacy’.

It’s not ‘private’ in the sense that you can't prevent Facebook hoovering up all your data.
3/ Let’s check a few of the Facebook Portal FAQs. But first, having a Facebook device in your living room or bedroom is like putting Dracula in charge of the blood-bank.

A new church in Spokane and being “dedicated“ in October on the curb outside of our local Planned Parenthood for the purpose of “assaulting the gates of hell“ with worship and street preaching.
One of the primary organizers is Jake Eakin, convicted murderer with a long history of violence.

A glance at his Facebook page shows that he perpetuates the myth of the ”abortion holocaust” which was created out of outrage and a disregard for facts.
Obviously it’s important that people in the Spokane area know to avoid Planned Parenthood on October 24, for their emotional and possibly physical safety. It doesn’t take much Googling to find horrific accounts of protesters attacking/traumatizing people utilizing PP’s services.

UCC had opportunity to comment on the #Data.Protection & Privacy Bill. The enactment of this law is long overdue. A comprehensive law on the collection & processing personal information gives effect to the right to Privacy envisaged under Article 27(2) of the Constitution
UCC welcome the protections offered by the Bill in terms of export of data, breach notification requirements, data subjects access rights, automated decision making, compensation and the right to be forgotten and provision for financial and penal sanctions for breach of the law.
Distinction between Data collectors & data controllers.
The Bill should however clarify & distinguish Data Collectors, from Data Processors & Data Controllers. Clause 2 is inconsistent with international good practice which provides for two broad categories of Data Controllers

1. So that #Brexit plan.

I won't be wasting a nanosecond examining the detail because it isn't a serious proposal, it doesn't address the core issues, it's issue illiterate and Brussels will refuse it because it violates their major red line.
2. So is it a betrayal of Brexit? No. We voted to leave the. We did not vote to terminate all formal relations with the EU and most reasonable people recognise that we need a deal and there will be compromises.
3. Being that trade requires a high level of regulatory cooperation it stands to reason that at the very least we would want a comprehensive agreement on the movement of goods not least for the sake of Northern Ireland.

1. What is the EU and why should the UK think twice about leaving are two questions to the same answer. So here goes my first twitter lesson.

2. The EU is not a State. Trying to understand the EU by applying nation-state concepts is frustrating because the pieces don’t fit.
3. This leads to it being criticised because we can’t find the state-like notions we understand make a political system legitimate.
