Meeting of @dsa_louisville now called to order. Packed room.

Agenda begins with a discussion on the Silver Dollar Attack.

"We've taken steps to improve security," including withholding meeting locations publicly unless a member of the public requests an addy from members.
Other agenda items for the eve:

Endorsement resolutions to be voted on for school board candidate Derek Guy. Context: insiderlouisville.com/education/scho…

...and Dem Anna Murray, challenging challenge to Republican Sen. Ron Grooms.
Jefferson Co Dist 3 school board candidate Derek Guy now speaking to DSA Lou, seeking endorsement here after receiving endorsement from @JCKFTC.

Fielding questions, tells members it's been a surprisingly "ugly" race. Worst, he says, came from getting a noose sent to him.
Asked more on platform, talks about school nutrition:

"I believe all kids should go to school and know that they're going to eat that day"
Calls for term limits also: "so we don't have things happening like currently where there's a huge disconnect between our students and our school board."
With no opposition, @dsa_louisville endorses Derek Guy for Jefferson Co school board, dist 3.
Anna Murray (D), for Indiana's Senate District 46, now speaking to DSA Lou members, seeking endorsement.
Correction: DSA Lou is considering resolution to endorse Murray, she says she's not actively seeking it.

Platform: pro living wage/unions, treatment for addiction, expand pre-K, legalize medical cannabis.

Funds: Unions, law firms. Says hasn't solicited from "big businesses."
On enviro policy, says one thing she wants to change is: "All 15 out of 15 coal ash sites (in Ind.) are leaking."
Murray tempers expectstions here: Says even if she wins, "I am still going into a Republican supermajority." And even with multiseat pickup, Dem policy battles still uphill.
Asked about her position on universal healthcare, Murray points to campaign finance reform: "Until we have that, we're never gonna make substantive changes to our laws."
One @dsa_louisville member speaks in opposition to endorsement of Anna Murray.

"If we start going down this road of pragmatism, where we endorse people who have moderate values, it's not going down the right path."
Another member favors her endorsement, though:

"I think throwing something behind this campaign does not compromise" socialist values.
Debate is extended on this motion due to the divide here.

We've got an invocation of Trotsky and Lenin here. Some concern that the time requirements from DSA members for an endorsement (10 hr), saying not enough alignment b/w Murray's Dem platform with DSA values.
Final vote:

Aye: 12
Nay: 5

@dsa_louisville passes resolution to endorse Anna Murray (D) for Ind. senate district 46.
DSA bylaw change now up for consideration: Number of at-large officers reduced from 6 to 3, new officers elected at year-end instead of Jan, and steering cmte terms reduced from 2yr to 1, 2-yr term limits for co-chairs.

Amendment passes with no oppo.
