Question. I’m looking at the Beto 3rd Qtr numbers and trying to break down $ per state. How would you account for the massive ActBlue amounts for Beto? It’s all individual donors, from all over the country but the filings show as being from MA, which is where ActBlue is based.
ActBlue is just a payment service, like Square. When you donate, you provide your address and they verify your max allowable contribution, but your specifics don’t seem to get transmitted to the campaign.
Leaving the ActBlue items in creates a false impression that Massachusetts is totally in the bag for Beto and skews the overall percentages.
The only way I can see dealing with the amounts / donations is to either 1) exclude the ActBlue items entirely, or 2) go through and prorate the ActBlue items back in following the spread of all other items.
Going with 1) means a significant number of contributions get left out. Going with 2) means that I’m allocating under an assumption that may not be valid.
