People really don’t get the importance of campus activism and things like a “free speech wall.” Earlier, an international student participated. She was very pleased she had the freedom to write whatever she wanted on the wall. She wrote “I support free speech.” It was cool to see
For the students that already understand how free speech in America works, it was an exercise that reminded them of how important our first amendment rights are. A lot of leftists even participated. It was really nice to see so much bipartisan support for something so important.
Tonight was really special to me. Left & right leaning students loved the free speech wall. The leftists that attended our event tonight were respectful and thoughtful in their approach. It reminded me of the days when it wasn’t a big deal to be either progressive or conservative
