@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz I had a dialogue with the Doc on this from the Advocacy angle because for me it is always about perspectives beyond the noise, emotions, angst and activism which ends on twitter after it trends. I walked him through what works in any clime if this must fly at all.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz First of all, sanitary pads can’t be free. It is a product of many firms that pays for its production processes & provides jobs for millions of families. Cutting taxes is also not reasonable because in every sale there are taxable profits which keeps the business afloat.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz Making it free robs the firm and production process and cutting taxes hurts us all as it robs government of income from manufacturers, distributors and imports, thus putting more money in the hands of dealers. It also may not make it cheaper. Nothing gets cheaper in Nigeria.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz These are simple economics. Water is essential for all human beings not just men or women. Yet it is sold. It even competes with carbonated drinks. Some bottled water cost more. Even pure water doubled in price & no one raised an eye brow for it to be free or its taxes cut.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz Playing on the emotions of women for patronage of NGOs or for the sake of trends will hurt the reputation of activists once again. This is one of the reasons why I kept hammering on the difference between Activism and Advocacy. We all must be Activists & must learn deeper.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz The issue of who started what is also petty. Most times people don’t even get their facts right on this issue. What should matter is how tight the collaborations are towards the end goal and the success of the advocacy in the end. This is why we are not growing as a people.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz Many causes are still birth because it was designed for fame & popularity and never about achieving the goal itself. Same reasons why people run for President not because of service, knowing they can’t win but for the fund raiser & Presidential Candidate title.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz These Faux Causes are not hard to spot. They are hurriedly conceived with no roots or deep conviction. They are mostly for the “Na me start am” argument peradventure it succeeds like the accidental civil servant becoming a disastrous governor. Shall we get serious please?
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz My response here is not to disincentivize anyone from fame but to ask deeper questions about our understanding of building to last as against building castles on sand? Where are the Activists of old that were politicized in 2015? The weather changed & were all swept away.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz Let’s get understanding shall we? Enough of the noise and torrential hashtags just for the sake of it. This is why Government don’t pay attention to the noise until it goes beyond the hashtag. We should stop abusing the use of socialmedia. We can send stronger messages.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz The arena of Greatness is Chaotic & very Unsafe. If security is your highest priority, greatness may not be good for U. Hide yourself well in your comfort zones. Sabotage, betrayal, rejection, assassination of character lay in wait in the alley of greatness. Being rooted is key.
@jackdre02 @Kelvin_Odanz Those who walk with Christ will agree that even God sent us forth as Lambs in the midst of Wolves. Toxicity & hostility will consume any human without the Almighty by your side. And may I say God doesn’t operate in the realm of fame & selfishness. It’s about impact & influence.
