LAW 41: Avoid stepping into a great man's shoes.

To stand out with accomplishment and originality, it will take much more effort if you follow the beaten path.

Mastery in field requires the courage to defy convention and move past what has worked before.
1. The fundamental error of the aspiring apprentice is that you can reach sublime achievement by emulating the old masters.
Understand this and understand it well: history does nor repeat itself.

If you try to follow in someone else's footsteps, you will inevitably fail because conditions are always changing.

To do blindly what others have done is to surrender to circumstance.
Trying to replicate the glories of the past is a fool's errand.

In the unlikely event that you succeed, you still wouldn't like the result because you are you, not someone else.

Embrace the uncertainty of making your own way, and gain Power.
Have no doubt that mastery goes through mastery of the fundamentals, and you can learn from the past - its failures and successes.

But the greatest value of your life's work must come from your original Vision and willingness to take risks in manifesting it.
2. Never measure yourself with other people's standards and accomplishments.

Other people aren't you, that's why they are other people.

To lead yourself, you must establish your own principles and hold yourself accountable.
Draw inspiration from past greatness, but in your life you are the measure of all things.
People fall on resentment and regret because they don't take responsibility to lead themselves.

Authentic fortitude can only come from within - not the past, not other people, not books or conditions.
3. Copycats draw ridicule and disdain because people sense instinctively that success through fakery is a pathetic house of cards.
What's fake and inauthentic is weak and fragile, about to crumble any moment.
Forced originality for its own sake also reeks of fakery. Authenticity is the only standard that endures - it comes organically from within.
4. Always be moving, challenge mind and body, never stop.
Never let yourself slip into the comforts of your own success.

It's a trap.

The mind dies of ease and comfort, thrives on challenge and aspiration.

Complacency is the ultimate enemy.

Forget this at your peril.
5. Assume nothing, challenge everything.
The daily newsletter is intended to challenge everything you think you know.

Especially what comforts - and kills your creativity.

The only "shortcut" is to keep at yourself.

Authenticity is simple, not easy.
