I've been an Apple user for over 20 years. Yesterday's launch was the first time in a long time I've really felt like I *want* their new products. The new Air is a fantastic update to one of my favourite macs, and the iPad Pro is just dang gorgeous.
The first time I was a digital nomad in 2013, I was working off a 13" Macbook Air. I loved that thing - it was super light and the battery lasted forever. I'm on a 15" Macbook Pro Pro (Touchbar) now and wondering whether I should "downgrade"...

1/ I’ve had a few days to reflect on the last 4 months of my startup challenge and I think it’s time for a pivot / recalibration

2/ The challenge began with me wanting to practice execution again, after almost 3 years in a senior corporate role where I didn’t touch any code. I missed building things, had the luxury of free time, so it seemed like a good goal to just “practice shipping”.
3/ Now, after 4 consistent launches in 4 months I feel I’ve proved to myself I’ve still got the knack. I can still build and ship a decent MVP within a given time constraint. But I’m not happy.

Not many people go from launch to sustaining lifestyle in just a couple of months. Maybe that happens to some in survivorship-bias-land. But back in the real world it takes a lot longer. My last SaaS took 6+ months to get to just a few thousand $ MRR.
And that was when I was focused on ONE SaaS product and spent a good amount of time on content marketing every day.
I’ve said many times that revenue isn’t my short term goal. I’ve launched a free open source app, an app that charges $1, an app that has pricing but isn’t charging anything yet, and a job board in a competitive niche. These aren’t the actions of someone focused on revenue 😅

Without a doubt, yes. But then who is to say which strategy is right? Build another MVP or focus on an existing one? I feel like I will “know” when it’s the right time to really focus.
In the end whether you’re successful from iterating one product consistently or successful from trying many things and seeing what works - it’s all down to the chaos monkeys anyway 😅
I think the 12 startup method suits me best because I haven’t quite decided what industry / area I want to focus on. So it’s all experimentation. Even if I wanted to focus on one thing I don’t know what that one thing would be. Yet!

One of my favorite quotes of all time: when Julia Child, who did more than anyone to make cooking accessible to everyday people, said, "The more I cook, the more I like to cook."

There's a lot to unpack in this seemingly simple quote. Let me try to explain why I love it so much.
Most people don't know this, but Julia Child was _not_ a natural at cooking and discovered it rather late in life. She was self-conscious due to her height (6'2"), played sports in college, and majored in history. She began her career as a copywriter in New York.
She said of herself at the time, "I am sadly an ordinary person... with talents I do not use." She didn't enjoy her job as a writer and felt that her talents were going to waste.

If you haven't been following, Apple added an NFC controller to the iPhone 7 to enable Apple Pay (contactless payments). It wasn't until iOS 11 that support for reading NFC tags was added. That was a huge deal for the NFC industry.

However there are some significant limitations in iOS 11 for NFC tags. The most significant of which is that (1) a 3rd party app is required and (2) the user experience requires an explicit user interaction to read NFC tags. More in link here...

Jimin wouldn’t allow himself to be trapped on his shift for any longer than necessary.

“Go, go,” Taehyung hurried, taking Jimin’s apron to let him slip out from behind the counter more quickly. Jimin decided he could get the grounds out from under his nails at home.
This morning had been absolute hell. Two girls ordered seven drinks, Jimin made them all only for them to say they were supposed to be with almond milk.

‘Oh I’m so sorry,’ was he all he had legally been allowed to say at the time, while his mind had far more colorful ideas.
With Jimin officially clocked out, he slumped on the customer side of the now empty service counter, looking to his friend with tired eyes.

“You wanna grab dinner later?”
“I can’t, remem—?
“Ah, right...”

Jimin’s disappointment vanished as Taehyung suddenly smiled to himself.

I keep thinking back to a discussion a few months on reddit about THE BELGARIAD. Several comments were made about it being cliche and pedestrian, and someone said, “Yeah, it’s a fine story, but it’s never going to be a classic.”
And all I could think to respond was, “It’s over thirty years later and we’re still talking about it. How is that NOT ‘a classic’?
But that got me thinking- I cite THE BELGARIAD (and THE MALLOREON, its sequel series) as one of my influential works. But what is that influence? I know I’ve read the whole series several times. My copies of the books are in terrible shape.
