Pretty clear this ginned-up outrage against Broward officials originates in a coordinated Republican effort.

What comes next — Brooks Brothers Riot II: Electric Boogaloo?
I think what galls me most when Republicans say Democrats will turn the country into Venezuela — or Central America, or what have you — is how the same Republicans turn around and pull straight-up banana republic 💩.
The thing about the president’s tweet about Florida is how it should confirm concerns that Republicans may go all in on the idea that counting votes equals “cheating.”

Not a healthy development in a democracy, that.
Oh, the president’s lawyer has joined the party.
Exactly.

If events such as these unfolded in some other country, we’d read accounts of a party that seemed intent on undermining democracy. Hard to see how that somehow isn’t true of our present-day GOP.
And don’t miss the fact that this problem reaches beyond mere vote counting. Even in the face of unambiguous election outcomes, Republicans get up to mischief such as this.
I’ve said this before, but this is Brezhnev Docrine stuff: a zeal-driven conviction that notwithstanding the choice of the voters, conservatism must only advance and never reverse.

If Republicans continue to indulge that impulse, it’s not going to lead to anywhere good.
Here we go — they’re adding all the hits to their playlist:
- “lock her up”
- “Brooks Brothers riot”
- “voter fraud”

Republicans may be taking this irresponsible course for momentary advantage, but it’s going to lead us all nowhere good.
