SAVING DEMOCRACY FROM THE IGNORANT MOB: THE IMPORTANCE AND NECESSITY OF A KNOWING/SOPHISTICATED ELECTORATE..THREAD
Election season is here again...once more the exercise of franchise by voting, has taken center stage."i have my PVC", "Get your PVC", "YOUTH VOTE COUNTS" e.t.c , is once more the order of the day...
Voting on Election day is of course vital...and a prominent feature of a democratic system..
However there is an aspect that deserves equal if not more emphasis and attention ...and that is-
The sophistication of the electorate...that you and I as voters, must be knowing..
One of the harshest criticisms of democracy came from the legendary Winston Churchill when he stated that “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter"
If we as citizens of this country had risen to the heights that we should have fittingly occupied...especially the class(The Educated) that surprisingly fallshort of the lofty heights it assigns to itself,
Atiku Abubakar would not have the Effrontery,Audacity, arrogance or shamelessness to tweet the nonsense below. But of course he fears not..he trusts the ignorance of the voter and expects this insult to a sensible mind, to be gobbled up by the bland.
We as citizens,We as voters, need to become knowing...we need to become so sophisticated one of the grand patrons of Nigeria's sorry state Atiku Abubakar, would not dare mock us in this manner...
He would not mock by using the the reality the he and his cohorts set in motion, to woo voters against the man in office, working tirelessly against all odds to wipe away the footprints of Nigeria's enemies from our socio-political and economic lives...
It is no longer enough for instance, to know and say that the price of commodities have tripled....you need to strive to know WHY...especially if you consider and pride yourself as educated ..
...this will make us better disposed to analyse and decipher whom our friends and enemies are ..
as intellectuals and the educated no less!
This attitude is not meant for Abuja alone..
It should trickle down to the affairs at ward level, Local government ....in dealing with your representatives at the state and National assemblies e.t.c ....
Charity begins at home....hold him first responsible ...the politician closest to you...
Finally, As president, governor, senator and chairman of your own self ...be the change that you want to see in Nigeria....do not fan the flames or feed the agents and system that keeps us down ....thank you..
