1. An AG who doesn't believe in Marbury v. Madison!?!?! Why that's as nuts as appointing a Secretary of the Interior who thinks the earth will only be around for a few more generations so there's no need for environmental regulations (James Watt, appointed by Reagan)...
2. Or as illogical as putting someone in charge of the Department of Education who doesn't believe in public education (Betsy DeVos).
3. Or as ludicrous as putting someone in charge of an agency they once said should be abolished (Rich Perry, DOE).
4. Or as foolish as putting an climate change denying anti-environmentalist in charge of the EPA, an agency they sued 13 times for doing its job (Scott Pruitt).
5. Or as cruel as putting a doctor in charge of HUD who thinks poor people need to pay 3X as much rent, and whose only qualifications for the job appear to be that the President thought "a black guy" would know about public housing. nymag.com/intelligencer/…
6. Or a Secretary of the Interior (Zinke) who, aside from being ethically challenged, thinks his job is to turn over the public lands at very little cost to fossil fuel and other extractive industries. rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
7. None of this is accidental. The appointing of people who are either incompetent or openly hostile to the agencies they've been appointed to lead is a feature of GOP "governance," such as it is.
8. The GOP has long been a party that loves the country but hates the state (except for the military and the police). Appointing people who want to undermine if not destroy key components of the state is a feature, not a bug.
9. They call it "draining the swamp," but what it really means is taking the federal cop off of every beat that might police corporations and the rich in the public interest, and draining resources from any agency that helps people who aren't rich.
