Hello! It's that time of year, right before the holidays, during #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth when I share a list of gift ideas that support Indigenous people/organizations.

First, WHY support these organizations?
I'd love to tell you.
One of the best ways to fight destructive stereotypes of Native people is to recognize that we are still alive today, still creating, still working.

Instead of buying things about us or "inspired by us" (like Target pillows), buy directly from us. Support our work.
What better time to fight against those stereotypes than around Thanksgiving?

So here is a list of amazing ways you can put your money into Native communities and support Indigenous peoples and our important work.

Let's get started!
1. Sign yourself and a friend up for a subscription to @RedRisingZine, a beautiful magazine out of Canada that features the poems/essays of Indigenous peoples.

2. For fashion lovers, support the incredible work of @Byellowtail. They sell beautiful clothing & accessory items, all designed by Indigenous peoples.

3. This is one of my favorite things right now (ehem, who wants to sign me up!?)-- @raven_reads delivers Indigenous literature and giftware to your doorstep! It's the perfect gift for the holiday season.

4. Support the work of The Red Road. They are an educational non-profit doing a lot of amazing work around the country. You can shop their online store or donate to their work:

5. @The_Red_Nation is a group of native & non-native activists working toward liberation of Native peoples. Their work through direct action, advocacy, mobilization, and education is well worth supporting. @nick_w_estes @melanie_yazzie

6. One of my favorite orgs, @HonorTheEarth has incredible gift options, including Native-grown wild rice that is perfect for a holiday side dish. Buy a t-shirt for a friend that supports water protectors. The options go on and on!
& follow @WinonaLaduke!

7. Here is a list of 25 books by Indigenous authors that you can purchase today for family and friends to read during the holidays. As a writer, I can't tell you how important it is that you support Indigenous writers.

8. For the kiddos, this list by @debreese (among many she has published) gives a lot of great options for books that elementary age kids can read. Buy a few for family & friends:

9. Support Native farmers. I order my garden seeds from Eloheh Farm, run by @randywoodley7 and his wife, Edith. Stock up on your garden now, and send a few seed packets to your friends.

10. Lastly, I invite Indigenous artists to share their work here on Twitter so that others can support it. #NativeTwitter is an amazing resource for Native artists and creators. Support them & the work they're doing.

Make the holidays meaningful this year.
Support Native work.
