Good morning from the Broward County Superivisor of Elections, where the recount process is underway.

I just saw an employee enter with a 1 gallon jug of water and two 5 hour energy shots.
The Broward County recount still not underway (tho supposed to start soon), more than four hours after it was supposed to begin at 7am. A problem with one machine forced extra testing, then brief debate involving paper clips, then another about who gets to be in tabulation room.
And we’re off! Broward County recount is finally underway. Was supposed to start at 7am, Miami-Dade started last night.
Here's why the FL recount takes so long

Broward alone has 714k ballots, consisting of 3.5 million pages.

Right now, all they're doing is sorting the 1st page, which has all 7 races being recounting, from the rest.

That sorting alone will take 30-35 hours. Then they count.
A ton of Trump supporters have shown up outside Broward County Super of Elections Office since I went in early this am. This is what greets you when you step outside. Music, bull horns, giant signs.
Very different vibe (and crowd complexion) at this church where people are lining up to see Andrew Gillum speak in a bit.

Gillum retracted his concession and is now engaged in the recount, though his vote gap is more than 2x Bill Nelson’s.
Andrew Gillum just finished speaking to a black church in Fort Lauderdale where he trashed GOP efforts to halt the recount: “This is also voter disenfranchisement.”

Here’s the crowd after he left the stage.
The civility police have arrived: “You’re a fascist. You’re a fascist. You’re a fascist.”
The Broward County Courthouse is shut down for Veterans Day, like a ghost town — except for this emergency hearing on a lawsuit filed by the Rock Scott campaign.

Lots of motions and counter motions. “So, everybody wants to intervene in every case, basically?” judge asked.
Scott team's demands turn out to be fairly minor. Want Broward ballots+machines to be impounded when NOT in use: "We’re not interested in interfering with the recount at all."

Atty for SOE argues it's an attempt to get a small-ball ruling that *looks* bad, even if does not much.
JUST IN: Judge denies Rick Scott campaign request for injunction -- at least for now. Parties will reconvene in an hour.

"I don’t think I have any evidence to enter a mandatory injunction right now,” Judge Jack Tuter said.
Here's the resolution to the emergency hearing today on Broward's election issues:

All parties have agreed and judge is preparing to order 3 add'l Sheriffs Deputies be in place at the SOE. Asks they be in place in next few hours, remain until end of recount.
Coming up on MSNBC with @KatyTurNBC to discuss the Florida recount.

Here’s my dispatch from the circus >
nbcnews.com/politics/elect…
@KatyTurNBC The mood among Trump supporters outside Broward election HQ is alternatively festive and angry.

One minute, Bikers for Trump are dancing to pro-Trump songs. The next minute, a woman is screaming about “the f**ing Jews."

@KatyTurNBC “Anything's possible. It's Florida."

Meant to tweet this earlier, but Broward’s courthouse has to have one of the best views from any courthouse in the country. From 15th floor>
Brenda Snipes, the embattled Broward County election head, says they will complete recount by Thursday 3pm deadline: "There’s never been a deadline that we have missed."

Says they're running 24-hours, with two 12-hour shifts.
Broward County SOE Brenda Snipes also hit back at Trump's tweet: "I don’t have a treasure trove to go out digging on the beach somewhere to find any votes."
Brenda Snipes also suggested she'll step down/not run for reelect after recall, though was vague on details.

"It is time to move on, to let someone else... I think I have served the purpose that I came here for...."

"I haven’t finalized that. I’ll just check with my family."
Here in Palm Beach County where...not much is happening.

SOE Susan Boucher says there’ll be a “very long lull” while they reconcile under/over votes.

Boucher has tried to expend deadline, w/o success so far. “We are doing every thing in our human power possible to get it done.”
The last Q Palm Beach County SOE Susan Boucher took at this presser was to respond to calls for her resignation.

She answered defiantly, inisiting she would count every vote, prompting applause from Dem activists here, then she walked away as I tried to ask a process Q.
We’re less than 24 hours out from the recount deadline, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the Palm Beach County operation.

I’ve been here since about 11:30am and seen only one machine in use (right side in photo), minimal other activity. nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna9…
UPDATE FROM PALM BEACH: Nothing.

We’re now 18 hrs from a deadline they’re supposedly rushing to meet and there are *zero* machines running, *zero* employees visible working on the floor, and no new info in hours.

I just asked supervisor for update, she waved hand, walked away.
UPDATE: Something!

Palm Beach elections supervisor now admits “likelihood is pretty slim” they’ll make 3pm recount deadline.

Still trying to do Senate race (machines can only count one race at a time).

Blamed old machines, tight deadline set by state.

*Some* action now
As we conclude the machine recount portion, now the “fun” part begin and things really kick off for the hand recount.

Tables are set up for ballot inspection and partisan volunteers are arriving.

Ds and Rs have base camps set up up with snacks — and color coded table clothes.
