.@jimmybuffett recently called out Trump, and a fan was quoted as saying, "Way to alienate half your fan base."
People say variations of this to me all the time: "If you keep being so anti-Trump, you'll only reach half your potential readers!"

That isn't how I'm doing this life, thing.

I'll take half my potential readers, and being able to sleep at night.
I'll take half my potential readers, and calling out vile behavior and bigotry.

I'll take half my potential readers, and standing alongside immigrants and Muslims and LGBTQ people.
I'll take half my potential readers, and demanding women be treated with dignity.

I'll take half my potential readers, and refusing to accept a bastardization of the teachings of Jesus.
I'll take half my potential readers, and knowing I did all I could to stop fascism during the time I was here.

I'll take half my potential readers, and being about diversity, equality, and an America that is a beacon for the poor and the tired and the marginalized.
I'll take half my potential readers, and knowing I was someone my kids can be proud of.

I'll take half my potential readers—and all of my soul.

I don't see that as a loss.

I see it as winning what matters
