People seem to have a problem understanding the Battle of Narratives. If fought/played correctly it will always end in a draw. For years the left played this game and the right didn't engage so the left won. Now the right is playing, thanks to Trump, and guess what? It's a draw.
It's like tic tac toe. This isn't a real war ATM. You don't defeat the other side and kill off their soldiers. Ideas don't die. If you are expecting, on either side, a complete victory you will be disappointed.
There is however, a difference between the battle of Narratives and reality. Baghdad Bob sprouting off that US tanks weren't in Baghdad was a narrative devoid of reality. Bush saying mission accomplished was a narrative that matched more closely with current reality.
Yet, even there it wasn't the full truth and events later would move that narrative further and further from reality.

About 90% of what goes on in DC is a narrative. Sometimes winning the narrative helps accomplish the wish list of that 10% that is real, sometimes not.
While it's nice to win the narrative battles, the goal should always be to win the reality. A good example of this, currently, is the senator race in FL. The goal should be to have Gov Scott be the next senator from FL. It really doesn't matter about the narratives a side uses.
The mid terms are another example. It was a big win for us not because we defeated them but because we withstood all they had and still are standing. We lost some ground in some areas and gained ground in others.
Not only was their Narratives defeated (blue wave, Trump support is small etc) but also real victories were achieved ( Senate kept, judiciary kept, nevertrumpers defeated)
Most of the negative talking points the "muh we are all doomed" crowd brings to the table are narratives. Some closer to reality than others but almost all are narratives. As FDR said once: the only thing to fear is fear itself. So accept the doom narratives if you want, I don't.
