1. Today the Padmanabhaswamy Temple Petition was taken by Hon'ble Justices Shri U. U. Lalit and Shri D. Y. Chandrachud as Item 13 in Court 11 of the Supreme Court.
2. The Petition was listed for hearing on various Interim Applications as well as final arguments in the matter. The Amicus Curiae Shri Gopal Subramanium proposed to undertake a visit to the Temple to meet stakeholders and build consensus.
3. The Counsel for the Petitioners objected to this suggestion pointing out such an exercise would yield nothing and that the Petition must be taken up for final arguments.
4. The Counsel for the State Government, Mr. Jaideep Gupta made the limited submission that there was no need to appoint a full time executive officer since there is not much work to be done.
5. Mr. @jsaideepak submitted on behalf of @People4Dharma that his primary objections are to the recommendations of the Amicus with respect to the religious practice of the Temple, especially practices which are alien to the traditions of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
6. Mr. @jsaideepak submitted that the Amicus had gone beyond his mandate by commenting on and making recommendations with respect to religious practices.
7. Mr. @jsaideepak further submitted that in the name of restoration and maintenance, heritage structures had been demolished and irreparable harm had been caused.
8. Mr. @jsaideepak pointed that newspaper reports had even reported on the outrage caused among the locals as a consequence of the destruction of the heritage structures.
9. Mr. @jsaideepak pointed out that in interim application filed earlier by @indiccollective with respect to destruction of heritage structures, the Court had directed @indiccollective to approach Justice Radhakrishnan who has been appointed by Court to look into these issues.
10. Mr. @jsaideepak pointed that despite a representation having been filed before Justice Radhakrishnan with respect to the destruction of heritage structures, no orders had been passed thus far thereby causing irreversible damage.
11. After hearing all the Counsels, the Court has listed the matter for final arguments on January 15, 2019 and has clarified that no adjournments will be given.
12. Further, the Court has directed that all interim applications will be placed before Justice Radhakrishnan for expeditious orders based on the exigencies.
