Beign a Public Health graduate, and having to watch as my dept. Was downgraded from a 5yr professional degree awarding course to a 4yr non professional degree awarding course by NUC. Leaving a ton of prospective graduates half baked (this show'd in our practical rural postings)
And short-changed, because Nigeria doesn't have a Public Health professional regulatory council,
In a country we're public health practitioners should be bread specifically for the job, rather than dumping these roles in the hands of a clinician! I can beat my chest and point
Out a number of young public health graduates who are hungry and yearning to put forth the various crazy, innovative yet disruptive idea's into practice in our healthcare sector....... This is a growing sector in our country and people are becoming more aware of this fact, but
The dream of a professional regulatory body?? Seems unattainable because of the Behemoth called the Nigerian Medical Council! And the politics that be. So this is me asking @atiku and @PeterGregoryObi, is there a specific plan to getting our healthcare industry working?
Is there a plan to creating a sense of relevance for I and my colleagues as public health graduates? (you should see my CV by the way, and ooh @elvis_okolie was best graduating student in UNICAL, last year we're the public health department, my department, turned out 5 first
Class credible graduates, and the highest number of 2.1 also credible graduates).
I ask not just for me but for my colleagues.
P/s: you should see the number of medical doctors rushing to do masters in public health, and in the few universities available to run a master's
Programme in Nigeria, you have preferential treatments given to Medical Doctors, shouldn't this be an equal opportunity programme? Well this is me asking how I as an individual benefits from the government "professionally"
I have a bunch of skills sets and professional experiences that can fetch me jobs in various sectors by what's the point having this degree or any degree and not putting it to practice? And what about those who weren't as lucky or as ambitious as I was to push for
Out-of-school-experiences...
