I just re-read Marcel Mauss' classic, The Gift (Le Don). Wow. What is stunning is that after talking about gift-giving as a "total social fact" that holds "primitive" society (Maori, Andaman, etc) together, Mauss returns to the France of 1925, emphasizing integrative 1/
