Curious to hear from other instructors about what texts "live" on their desk and why. What do you currently have close by and why? I'll start with a few that have been living on my desk recently.
"Naming What We Know: Threshold Concepts in Writing Studies" has been on my desk for awhile. Whenever I'm thinking about some writing-related thing, I reach for it to see what someone else has said. upcolorado.com/utah-state-uni…
Almost always nearby is @KenBain1's "What the Best College Teachers Do." hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?is… I'm not teaching at the moment, but if/when I do, I'm always dipping into it as I prepare for the semester.
"How Humans Learn" by @joshua_r_eyler has been on the desk since I received it. Another one I keep dipping back into as I work on related ideas. wvupressonline.com/node/758
"Troublemakers: Lessons in Freedom From Young Children in School" by @CarlaShalaby has made a home recently. I've been reflecting more on how earlier schooling experiences impact how students view college. This helps. thenewpress.com/books/troublem…
"Bad Ideas about Writing" is an open publishing digital text, so technically it's on the desktop, not the desk, but like "Thresholds" it's another one I turn to for reflection constantly. textbooks.lib.wvu.edu/badideas/index…
