Here's DAG Rod Rosenstein, Criminal Division head Brian Benczkowski, NJ US Attorney Craig Carpenito, and FBI Exec. Ass't Director Amy Hess announcing an indictment against two Iranian men charged in a widespread ransomware extortion scheme. Indictment: documentcloud.org/documents/5316…
Victims of the alleged scheme included the cities of Atlanta and Newark, US hospitals, and various municipal agencies. DOJ is saying the two men charged collected more than $6 million in ransom payments, and caused $30 million in losses
Rosenstein left the room after delivering remarks about the indictment and did not take questions

NEW: The federal judiciary now expects to have enough money from other sources to keep the courts largely business-as-usual during the shutdown through Jan. 18 (previously it was Jan. 11) — this is the latest from the Administrative Office of the US Courts (HT @hsu_spencer)
In order to make the funds that the judiciary does have (absent a congressional appropriation) last as long as possible, "courts have been asked to delay or defer non-mission critical expenses, such as new hires, non-case related travel, and certain contracts"
DOJ, of course, is already affected by the shutdown, so most judges have been approving requests or issuing blanket orders to delay civil litigation involving the federal govt during the shutodwn (criminal cases still have to proceed as usual)

Some fireworks in court this morning as a judge criticized the lawyer representing Concord Management & Consulting in the special counsel Russian troll farm case for his language and harsh words about Mueller's office in filings — "unprofessional, inappropriate, and ineffective"
The judge told attorney Eric Dubelier that his strategy was "ineffective" and that his approach to filings — including pop culture quotes (see: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5676…) and accusing Mueller's office basically of lawlessness — was "undermining your credibility in this courthouse"
"Knock it off," Judge Dabney Friedrich told Dubelier. This then led to a heated exchange where Dubelier said he needed to consult his client since the judge had accused of unprofessional conduct, and now there might be bias from the judge. There's no bias, the judge replied.

Remember how prosecutors accused Paul Manafort of breaching his plea deal? His lawyers are due to file a response today about that — recall that at a Dec. 11 hearing, Manafort's lawyers said they needed more time to decide if they agreed or not with the govt's claims re: lying
There's no time deadline on this filing due today from Manafort's lawyer, so it could come at any time before midnight, which is always fun

Right, so per "source close to Rod Rosenstein" he has NOT resigned nor has he offered to resign.

If @RealDonaldTrump wants to add another obstruction of justice charge by firing Rosenstein, he'll have to do so. Rosenstein isn't resigning and has not offered to do so.

Trump may obstruct justice by firing Rosenstein, he must really long for that jail cell, but Rosenstein is not resigning.
This is probably a good time to wise folks up to the idea that if Trump fired Mueller, he wouldn't have fired the Office of Special Counsel. If Mueller spontaneously combusts in the next 5 minutes, the Trump Russia investigation will continue.

It doesn't depend on individuals.
